Who You Are

You are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). You thrive in roles where you can create impact and enjoy building relationships with families, schools, and other service providers. With a degree-level education and preferably additional qualifications in teaching or special needs coordination, you possess a robust understanding of SEND-related legislation such as the Children & Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice 2015.

What the Job Involves

As a SENDSTART Caseworker, you will support the council in meeting statutory duties by coordinating and developing high-quality Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for children and young people with SEND. Acting as the primary contact for families involved in the education health care needs assessment process, you will engage with schools and various service providers to ensure that EHCPs are timely and reflective of the child’s needs. You will also be responsible for preparing documentation for mediation and tribunal processes, ensuring compliance with statutory and corporate policies, and managing casework efficiently. Additionally, your role involves contributing to quality assurance processes and modeling best practices.
