Who You Are
An ideal candidate will hold an accredited Environmental Health degree (BSc or MSc) or equivalent and be registered as an Environmental Health Practitioner with the relevant professional body. You have significant experience in a local authority enforcement role, with proficiency in food hygiene and health and safety inspections and the ability to deal with complex investigations independently. Your excellent interpersonal and communication skills enable you to handle contentious situations with tact and compassion. You are adept at managing your workload efficiently, using a risk-based approach.
What the Job Involves
As an Environmental Health Officer in the Commercial Team, you will enforce food hygiene, health and safety, and public health legislation in various commercial businesses. Your role involves routine inspections, investigating food poisoning and infectious disease outbreaks, and handling complaints. You will also carry out accident investigations, manage enforcement actions, and engage with multiple stakeholders. Participation in legal proceedings, providing technical advice, and assisting with public health work are also part of your responsibilities. The position demands confidentiality, dedication to equal opportunities, and upholding the council’s values, with occasional work outside typical hours.
